Hospital Confinement/Patient Advocacy Program:
- Hospital confinement is considered any admittance to the hospital, for inpatient or outpatient services with
an aggegate cost of $2,500 or higher.
- Patient Advocacy is the most effective way to handle hospital confinement.
- Member has their own personal advocate.
- Every situation is different with a unique set of circumstances.
- AmeriPlan Health® has contracted with one of the largest Hospital/Patient Advocacy organizations in the
country.
- How the Hospital/Patient Advocacy will work:
Anticipated Hospital Confinement
- Member is informed of the need for hospital confinement by their physician.
- Member is directed to contact AmeriPlan Health® Customer Service.
- Member is interviewed to determine the nature of the medical problem, the scope of confinement,
whether their bill is an existing bill or an anticipated bill.
- Upon determination of extended hospital confinement, the member is sent a Patient Advocacy
Service Request Form.
- Member then sends the completed form to The Karis Group in Austin, Texas for review.
- A personally assigned advocate from The Karis Group then contacts the member to determine the
best course of action to obtain the best care at the lowest available cost.
- The Patient Advocacy process offers significant savings off the hospital bill, depending on the
patient’s ability to pay.
Post Confinement
- If a member is admitted to the hospital on an emergency basis, a Patient Advocate negotiates with
the hospital on a post-confinement basis.
- The AmeriPlan® member has assurance that knowledgeable, professional experts are working on
their behalf.
